Now lets take a look at a few do’s and don’ts before your boudoir session.

What should I do before a boudoir shoot?

Are you anxious about your upcoming boudoir shoot? Follow some of these super simple preparation tips to help you feel more at ease before heading out to the studio:

  • Wardrobe Choices: Nowadays there are a plethora of lingerie choices…how do you know what to choose or where to start? Luckily, Shannon provides a complete client closet from size XS up to 3XL. With over 150 pieces to choose from, Shannon has you completely covered and carries amazing brands like Honey Birdette, Gooseberry, Boux Avenue, and more. You will also get a full Preparation guide upon booking that will lay out tons of tips and tricks with wardrobe choices.
  • Groom: Waxing is great before a boudoir shoot, but it’s important that it’s done in proper timing. You know your skin best, but we don’t want it done too far out that it starts to stubble or too soon that a rash breaks out. 3-4 days before the session is the sweet spot. No irritation and still smooth bikini ready for the session!
  • Pamper yourself: Pamper yourself with a day at the salon. Get your nails and brows done to look your absolute best for the shoot. We want you feeling your best so why not splurge a little!
  • Sleep and hydration: Make sure to rest and stay hydrated leading up to your shoot date. Your skin will have a beautiful glow for your boudoir photographs!

These basics will help you prepare for the big day! The only question left to consider is what props you can bring to add to your session.

What shouldn’t I do before a boudoir photo shoot?

Here are several things to avoid in the days and hours leading up to your shoot:

  • Sunbathing or spray tanning: Any boudoir photographer will advise you to avoid tan lines, as they can show up in your photos and are not easy to remove in post processing. I would avoid the sun as much as possible leading up to your session date. Same can be said about spray tanning. Although it may seem like an appropriate alternative, if done wrong, it can leave clients looking orange and splotchy. If you do decide to spray tan, make sure to do a test trial weeks before the shoot to make sure you are satisfied with the color. I would also recommend getting a custom tan over a spray booth tan.
  • Eating a large meal: It’s hard to strike a pose when you’re bloated and uncomfortable. Prevent bloating and tummy aches by eating a lighter meal before the shoot. Just make sure it is a balanced nutrient meal. No cereal ladies. Something with protein to keep you full until lunch time.
  • Getting a facial: Stick to your usual face care regimen before your session so you don’t get unwanted redness or breakouts. The same can be said about hair care. No crazy cuts or colors before your session that you are not familiar with!
  • Alcohol: Staying up late with a drink in hand isn’t the way to go the night before your photo shoot. Get a good night’s sleep and instead consider celebrating after the shoot when your hair and makeup are already beautifully done up.
  • Worrying about the specifics: Don’t worry about posing, wardrobe, or other specifics. TRUST THE PROCESS, and let Shannon take care of you!
