5 Boudoir Posing Tips: Know How to Position Your Body

Posing can be tricky! And most clients count on their photographers to guide them through the shoot. However, it’s always good to have a couple of tips up your sleeve so you can feel as comfortable as possible when showing up to your session.

But before we dive into these posing tips, be sure to check out my FAQ’s page to learn more information about our boudoir sessions and also be sure to have these questions handy during a boudoir consult. Consults are a great opportunity for you to discuss some frequent topics such as popular boudoir myths, as well as props you should bring to your shoot.

Making sure all your questions are answered will help you feel more relaxed and ready to dive into this experience. Now let’s take a look at these simple posing tips to learn the best way to position your body on camera:

How do you pose for a boudoir shoot?

If this is your first time posing for a boudoir session or maybe you have prior experience but want more direction; follow these useful posing tips and learn how to position your body like a pro:

  • Tip #1: If it bends, bend it. Whether it’s your knees, wrists, elbows, or fingers, bending them will help create those composition triangles and keeps you from looking stiff and rigid in the photos.

  • Tip #2: If there are two, make them different. Legs, arms, feet, hands, etc. Your pose will appear more natural and again, less stiff.

  • Tip #3: Point those toes! It’s a minor detail but can make a great difference. Pointing the toes elongates the legs and helps make your entire body look more graceful. By paying attention to such details, you will become aware of your whole body and slowly start to discover different positions that work for you.

  • Tip #4: Arch the back. Arch it….and then arch it even more until it feels weird and uncomfortable. Arching the back brings the shoulders back and boobs out. Much more flattering than a hunch, wouldn’t you say?

  • Tip #5: What are your favorite assets? Before you start your session, take a few moments to look at your body, and remind yourself what you love about it. Knowing what you want to emphasize in your photos will help you get a few ideas on how to position your body for the most flattering results. Push things away from the camera that you want to appear smaller and closer if you want them to appear larger.
